“My Asian American Inspiration”
DragonSprouts is proud to announce its first Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (APAHM) Celebration. The celebration kicks off on May 1. We highly encourage all Mandarin Immersion Program families to participate. However, for this inclusive celebration, we warmly welcome all families at Mandarin Immersion schools to participate. Asian American heritage is not a requirement for participation, and we welcome our Asian American allies to join us.
Parents and Teachers – Create a special album!
Please share with us a moment in your everyday Asian American life. These photos could be a family or holiday photo, or a glimpse of your regular weekend activity. Please email your photos to dragonsprouts2021apahm@gmail.com and we’ll post these photos on a special celebration page on this website.
Students – Join our contest!
We are excited to host a contest for the students at our MI schools!
Group 1 Students: Elementary (K – grade 5)
Submit Poster
Draw an 8” X 11” picture of your Asian American Inspiration. This could be a person who is an Asian American role model, or an activity that makes you proud to be Asian American or an Asian American ally. Group 1 Parents can submit student entries in this form.
Group 2 Students: Middle School/High School (grades 6 – 10)
Submit Essay
Write a 500-word essay describing someone (family member, athlete, actor, etc.) or something (Asian art, dance, music, language, custom, celebration, etc.) that makes you proud to be Asian American or an Asian American ally. Group 2 Parents can submit student entries in this form.
Both groups must submit their entries by 5 pm on Friday, May 21. If you don’t have a Google account (which is required to upload documents in the forms), then please email your entry to us at dragonsprouts2021apahm@gmail.com.
We look forward to receiving your photos, posters and essays!
Our Contest Judges
DragonSprouts wanted to bring our community some inspirational Asian American judges to take part of our first APAHM celebration. We give tremendous thanks to all of our judges for their time in helping us review the students’ entries and selecting winners in each contest category.
