Traditional Chinese Paper Cutting

Jianzhi (剪紙)

Join us as Ying Sun and Shuang Xu teach us - in both Mandarin and English - about the traditional Chinese art of paper cutting, or jianzhi (剪紙). We will introduce the history of paper cutting, the culture within the art, and different types of paper cutting. The hosts will show three types of paper cutting activities:

• Tuanhua paper cutting

• Lanterns

• A chain of bats for Halloween

Please come to our chat prepared with these items:

• Scissors 

• Colorful construction paper (don’t forget black for the bats)

• Stapler

• Black marker

• Glue stick

• Pen or pencil that is visible on black paper to help trace and cut
