Ni Hao, Mandarin Immersion (MI) Families! As we are more settled in the current school year, we would like to take this opportunity to (re)introduce DragonSprouts to new and returning MI families.

About Us

Founded in 2012, DragonSprouts was affectionately named after the diverse roots we planted when the first MI Program was started in LAUSD's Local District-West. Today, DragonSprouts supports the MI Programs at Braddock Drive Elementary School, Broadway Elementary School, and Mark Twain Middle School. These programs offer students the opportunity to become bilingual, biliterate and multicultural citizens starting in kindergarten through middle school.

Funding raised by DragonSprouts provides curriculum materials, teaching staff, and the future of the program as we expand in scope, size, and grade level.

Events

In addition to providing material support in and out of the classroom, DragonSprouts also builds community by bringing families together through Chinese cultural and activities. In September, we hosted the Moon Festival and Book Exchange Playdate at which parents and children had the chance to meet one another while sampling mooncakes and trading Chinese children’s books. The event, attended by over 80 people from Braddock, Broadway, and Mark Twain, was a resounding success.

DragonSprouts is thrilled to announce that our second annual Chinese New Year Celebration will be on February 9, 2019 at 3:00 pm so SAVE THE DATE!

You can learn more about DragonSprouts through our website, Facebook page, and Instagram.

Giving Tuesday

This year Giving Tuesday falls on Tuesday, November 27. We kindly ask in advance for you to consider donating to DragonSprouts as your donations directly impact the quality of your children’s experience in the MI Program. In addition, your investment adds to the strength and security of the MI Program and helps us to build a solid future for the program and our children.

Volunteer Opportunities

We warmly welcome volunteers willing to contribute their time and talent to the DragonSprouts cause! We know there are many talented MI parents who could help make a difference. Please email Fonda Chang for information on how to volunteer or to ask questions about DragonSprouts.

Right now we are urgently seeking a parent to help us update our website. If you have experience in web design or administration, please contact Fonda. We would greatly appreciate your time, expertise, and guidance. If you are interested in volunteering to organize the Chinese New Year Celebration, please email Lily Liu Chan.

If you are a returning family, welcome back! If you are a new family, welcome!
